The reserve occupies a broad isthmus between two bays, Gumbodafjärden to the south and Långviksfjärden to the north. It comprises a large number of small bogs, spruce forests, rocky-outcrop pine forests and a moraine coast opening onto the sea.
The area offers excellent opportunities to study bogs (in various stages of development) on a landupheaval coast that is rising 9 mm a year. Bogs, spruce forests and rocky-outcrop pine forests here form a mosaic. Glacial erratics can be found in several places. Mergansers, gulls and sandpipers are just some of the birds that appear along the sea’s shores.
