In the village of Bobacken, there is a well preserved captain’s/skipper’s residence from the 1820s. The house was extended in the 1840s and, for the time and area, became an unusually large and stately edifice. In the summer, the farmstead is open to visitors. A café serves refreshments.

Historiska Hus, a local company, intends to restore all the farmstead’s buildings and recreate its garden. The goal of the restoration is to spread knowledge of practical building conservation and the cultivation of plants.

Throughout July, the farmstead is open to visitors every day from 11.00 to 16.00. The café’s refreshments include home-baked goodies. Historiska Hus also holds interesting courses on restoration and renovation.

The name “Thurdinska Gården” comes from cargo boat skipper and “sheriff”, J. F. Thurdin. With his family, he moved into this picturesquely located, prominent and “characterful building”. The Thurdins wanted an even bigger and statelier residence and thus had a storey added to the farmhouse at the start of the 1840s. This gave us the “improved farm residence” we see today, a two-storey building with clear traces of Empire and rococo stylings.
